Expect the Unexpected How to Prepare for Health Inspectors

When your restaurant is bustling with customers, it's easy to loosen your grip on the food safety regulations and forget about the health inspectors. Until they make an appearance at the least appropriate time, bring out their checklists, and start ticking off violation after violation.

To successfully pass a health inspection, you need to expect one at all times. Regardless if it's a lazy Sunday or a busy Wednesday, your kitchen should always be spotless, your equipment in good repair, and your employees should know the local health codes better than their mother tongue.

Pay Attention to Detail

Make a thorough inspection of your kitchen, bathroom, storage areas, and server stations at the start and finish of each shift. If you notice any spills, smudges, or any other signs of dirt, immediately bring this to your staff's attention if you can spot those smears, chances are that your inspector won't miss them either. And if you're worried about overlooking hidden stains, it's always best to hire a professional oven and kitchen cleaning team.

Stained floors and walls are not the only things that could tarnish your reputation. While not necessarily hawk-eyed, health officials are known for finding blemishes on places you'd never think to check. For example, they may examine your can opener for rusty stains, check a couple of ice blocks from your ice machine for black spots, or inspect the gaskets in your kitchen equipment for signs of mould. That's why it's important to include these areas into your daily cleaning routine.

Keep Your Records Within Reach

Place all of your restaurant cleaning records in a neatly ordered folder and ensure that your documentation is up-to-date. This way, you'll be able to provide your inspector with temperature, hygiene, HACCP, and other reports as soon as he requests them.

Your kitchen staff should also pass ServSafe training and obtain certificates. This way, you'll rest easy knowing that your employees are aware of the latest food safety methods. Your health official will also become much less suspicious if he knows he's dealing with qualified food handlers.

Know Your Health Codes

Consult your local health code requirements to make a list of the critical areas in your restaurant that you need to check first. For example, you absolutely need to know if you store your food at the right temperatures or whether you receive said food from a trusted distributor.

Your staff's personal hygiene needs to meet all safety standards to avoid cross-contamination. Hang as many signs as you can to remind them that washing hands is important, especially after a cigarette break. Have the line cooks wear gloves each time they handle food. Check if they use cooking hats and aprons.

Maintain Your Equipment

You can't expect to have a hassle-free inspection when you've got barely functioning equipment. For example, if you need to calibrate your meat thermometers, do so without delay. The same goes for built-in thermometers inside your refrigerators even if the temperatures are within the norm, be on the safe side and use a digital thermometer as well.

Your water temperature needs to meet the recommendations of your health department. But simply putting your hand under running water and screaming Hot, hot, hot! won't yield accurate results. Use a thermometer instead to secure those precious inspection points. Check your drains too and have your pest control services on speed dial in case you bump into a pest infestation.

Become the Health Inspector

There's no better way to gauge if your staff is playing strictly by the rules than to don the mantle of a health inspector yourself! Start by entering through your restaurant's front door to gain a customer's perspective. If your property's faade sports muddy windows or is in a desperate need of canopy cleaning, make sure to note that down. Then, arm yourself with an inspection form, a powerful flashlight, and a few chemical test strips, and storm your kitchen completely unannounced.

If you notice any mistakes, such as employees not wearing gloves or cooking on greasy grills and microwaves, silently mark those off. After you've completed your small investigation, use positive reinforcement to provide your team with suggestions on how to improve. Then, quiz every staff member to test their health code knowledge. For instance, you can ask them to explain their current tasks and the safety rules that go with them.

View Your Inspector As a Friend

Try to remain calm and confident as the neatly combed and well-dressed customer approaches your bar and reveals himself to be a health inspector. After notifying your staff of the health official's presence, approach the person and confirm his identity. Then, accompany him throughout the property and write down every problem that your inspector discovers. If you think that some of his conclusions are based on insufficient evidence, voice your disagreement in a polite and professional manner.

Correct any violations you find on the spot. For example, if the inspector learns that you've got a malfunctioning freezer and the meat inside is likely spoiled, dispose of the contents immediately. As the health official is about to leave, sign the health report and thank him for his feedback. And if the inspection didn't go as planned, try to reassure him that you'll do everything you can to quickly address the mistakes. Then hold an emergency staff meeting and stay true to your promise!

Everything You Need To Know About Medicaid And Braces

Everything You Need To Know About Medicaid And Braces

Like any public health care, qualifying for Medicaid can be a bureaucratic nightmare. There are considerable requirements to be met and not every state can offer the same services. In most states though, children's braces fall under the Medicaid umbrella. Generally, a family of two needs to make less than a thousand dollars a month in order for their child to qualify for Medicaid. Though there are exceptions and often incredibly specific requirements state to state.Other qualifications for Medicaid include being a US citizen, proof of age, proof of income and the other usual identity documents required for public services.

Above all other things, if you want your child to be able to use Medicaid for braces there must be sufficient cause to do so. Meaning simple overcrowding cases won't be covered by your insurance. In order to use Medicaid and braces there needs to be a substantial, skeletal issue with your child's teeth. These can not be cosmetic braces.

The best way to get your child approved is to get them into an orthodontist early. Phase one treatments may not be covered by Medicaid, but they can help evaluate your child's needs. Phase one treatment generally starts around the age of seven, when children have their first permanent teeth. While this might be slightly too early for Medicaid it could help mark your child for enrollment into the Medicaid dental program. If your child has ever had braces before they WILL NOT QUALIFY for Medicaid, and braces will have to come out of your pocket. So if you want to get those braces in their mouths, it's best to go with Medicaid from the start.

Along with an evaluative appointment, the child will need to meet a set of written criteria. In most states this criteria is devised as a points system. In most states a child has to score 26 points on a dental health questionnaire in order to receive federally funded care. Points are awarded for different dental maladies.

Once your child is evaluated by an orthodontist, it will generally take 2-3 weeks before your state's Medicaid office can approve your child's case. Once it is approved however, your child can carry on with getting braces in the normal way.One important thing to remember is that there is a maximum allowable age for this coverage (generally 18-20). The sooner you start the sooner your child will be done with Medicaid and braces!

Everything About Coloured Concrete Driveways and The Contractor

If you are installing coloured concrete driveways on your property, the house may look extremely different. Generally, people want simple patio and driveway in the surrounding ambience but other may have a different take on it. Innovation is the key for the modern homeowners, therefore the coloured driveways are becoming a popular choice across the world.

How to find the contractor?

The foremost aspect of the driveway construction is to find a suitable contractor who can accomplish the task in an impeccable manner.

To start with the customers should be prepared and confident so that the vendors do not gain an upper hand in the project. It is important to gain knowledge by conducting extensive research on the concrete driveways.

You can talk to the experts that are engaged in the same industry. They can provide detailed insight into the work, materials and the construction process. If you are knowledgeable, it is easier to assess the level of services on offer.

Finding several options when looking for coloured concrete driveways is one of the best possible methods for the users because there are many contractors claiming to provide suitable services to the users. It is important to conduct an independent inspection and zero in on the possible choice. You can speak to several candidates and then enquire whether they have adequate experience to handle the task. Sometimes talking to different contractors may make you do rethink on several criteria. In short, take your time and do not try to rush into the selection process.

Scheduling option is the key for users:

Reputed contractors are quite busy because of their huge demand among the clients; therefore, it is important to ask them for alternative schedule to build the driveway. People should not hire amateurs to cut cost because they may not be able to complete the task according to the expectations.

Scheduling the project deadline:

It is a well-known fact that concrete might take 2 to 3 weeks to dry; hence, the customer should schedule the project accordingly. Drying is an essential process to ensure the longevity of the driveway.

In order to judge the experience of the vendor, ask whether he or she is clear about all the permissions required from authorities. It would go a long way in assessing the skills of experts and ascertain whether they are qualified to do the project.

Some of the coloured concrete options:

Some of the coloured concrete driveways options include earth-toned driveways. They play a very important role in enhancing the ambience of the environment by many notches. Brown tan and sandy beige are very popular among the users when they are opting for the classic theme. Darker shades on the driveway are really useful to hide the tire marks and stains; hence it is easy to maintain the driveway.

Grey shades are visible in a majority of homes, but they are no boring colours of the past. Instead, the theme is mixed with charcoal to impart dark shades to the ambience. If the house is draped in light colours, the landscape may resemble a wonderful contrast to the users.

Multi-colour option concrete driveways have recently shot into popularity as they incorporate artistic faux finishes and decorative medallions all rolled into one. Contractors use fade-resistant colours on the concrete so that the surface never ages with the passage of time.

Chemical based colours are deployed as they provide an economical way of making the driveway attractive. Water-based stains can also be used due to the presence of fine pigments penetrating into the concrete to impart amazing colours. It not only makes the entrance pleasing but also boosts the resale value of the home.

So, make sure that you carefully consider all these aspects in your coloured concrete driveways and only then start your project in order to get the best results in this regard.

Essential Elements of Your Brand New Kitchen

Essential Elements of Your Brand New Kitchen

Essential Elements of Your Brand New Kitchen

Unlike any other part of your homes interior, the kitchen requires a higher level of function, purpose, and convenience. Because cooking, food preparation, and even dining is done in this area, there are essential elements that would provide the best experience for any homemaker or member of the family. When designing or planning to renovate your kitchen, these are the 4 important factors to consider.

Lighting

Without proper lighting, cooking will definitely be challenging, inconvenient, and possibly risky. Task lighting is important in specific areas where cooking and preparing food is usually done. It would also be best to have natural lighting entering your kitchen as this will provide enough amounts of free lighting, which can also be a great element to enhance the overall ambiance inside your kitchen. Windows will be essential, or better yet, you can also consider patio doors that open up to your backyard or outdoor area that can also be your vegetable o herb garden.

Ventilation

As cooking will definitely result to smokes, oils, and odor, it is important to have a range hood or exhaust to prevent accumulation of smokes, oils, and various smells. Purchase a range hood that can cater to all your cooking activities. You can check your local supplier for more info, or if youre living in Australia, you can check this site to find range hoods for sale. Windows can also be opened to provide a natural circulation of air within the room. You may opt for ceiling fans as well if it will go well with your kitchens overall design.

Energy Efficiency

Going green is always a recommended option. You must purchase energy-efficient appliances to lower down your power consumption. Water supply must also be used efficiently to prevent unnecessary spills or water consumption during any activity in the kitchen. Consult with your kitchen designer and let him or her know you are eyeing a more energy-efficient design for your kitchen. This will benefit you in the long run.

Cleanliness and Safety

Kitchen is an area with potential fire hazards, accidents, and sources of bacteria and diseases. Thus, it is important to have the right equipment to prevent such unlikely incidents. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and a smoke alarm. Making sure your kitchen is always clean is also important in maintaining a healthy area for cooking and eating. Storage closets must be kept clean all the time. Garbage should be disposed properly. Sinks, faucets, tables, countertops, and floors must be cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis. Range hoods must also be cleaned at least once a year to prevent any buildup of oils and dirt, and keep them in good condition. There is greater effort to keep kitchens clean as any leftover food or tools attracts bacteria, roaches, and rodents.

Design is always an important aspect when planning and constructing your new kitchen. It is, however, also important to include all essential and basic utilities, equipment, and precaution to provide utmost convenient, function, and safety.

Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners Reviews - How Do Its Uprights Rate

There are 3 types of Electrolux vacuum cleaner; canister, upright and lightweight. Each offers potential buyers different features at different prices. What follows is a review of the Electrolux range of upright vacuum cleaner that will, hopefully, help you decide which is best for you.

Electrolux are technical innovators. Proof of this was the release of the Trilobite vacuum, the first commercially available vacuum that vacuums your home without the need for you to do anything else but turn it on. True, there had been other earlier versions, but these were simple 'bump and turn' models; when they ran into an object the turned off in some random direction. If left running over a sufficient period of time, they would eventually vacuum the whole floor.

The Trilobite is very different. There is an aboard computer that not only memorizes the layout of the room, but actually works out the most efficient way of doing it. Its sensor also prevents it from ever touching anything in the room, so even the most delicate of objects is safe.

However, the Trilobite is incredibly expensive, has its limitations and the vast majority of people are going to buy a lightweight, canister or upright Electrolux vacuum cleaner.

Electrolux Upright Vacuum

There are three models on offer. The Electrolux Aptitude EL5010 has been built with quietness in mind. It allows you to change the brush roll speed with a nice sliding switch on the handle - the handle is one of those looped, ergonomic types, I don't much like them but plenty do. It comes with 7 carpet height settings, a 12 amp motor, and HEPA filter. The onboard tools are of superior quality with the hose having a 15 foot reach. It has an overall sleek design and is an appealing vacuum cleaner. If there is one criticism it's that the carpet height setting is not automatic - the Simplicity Synergy vacuum cleaner comes with this feature.

The Electrolux Oxygen 3 vacuum (EL5035) primary design focus was the sealed HEPA filter - it's one of the best on the market. It also comes with electronic height adjustment that allows you to change the head height so you can clean all floor types. There's a 12 amp motor and the cleaning width is 15 inches. This model compares favorably with the Simplicity Synergy vacuum cleaner; in fact it's cheaper and better.

Finally, we have the Electrolux Intensity vacuum (EL5020). Its design is an interesting idea inasmuch as it's been designed to be a foldaway upright. It does look rather odd at first, with its 'wishbone' handle and lower part that looks like a canister vacuum. Although the main body is small, it still houses a 12 amp motor and its cleaning width is 15" and the air path is only 3" from head to bag, so it does pack a punch. Like the other models it comes with a HEPA filter.

While the Electrolux Intensity is nice is does have some serious drawback. The first being the size of the dust bag - 1 quart. It's small; the dust bag of the Aptitude is more than 4 quarts. I guess it could be argued that the Intensity isn't really designed for large homes; its space saving, fold away design being more suitable for small studio apartments limited on storage space. That may be true, but it's the most expensive of the 3 Electrolux uprights - by quite some margin - and I can't see why anyone would pay this much for a 'small' upright. Many online vacuum cleaner reviews also agree on this point.

Electrolux upright vacuum cleaners are among the best on the market. Of the three, I think the Electrolux Oxygen 3 is the model that offers the most vacuum for the money. It has few rivals that can match its cleaning power, quietness and filter.

Electric Fireplace Heaters Make the Best Choice

Electric Fireplace Heaters Make the Best Choice

Electric Fireplace Heaters Make the Best Choice

An electric fireplace heater is an easy and cost effective way to add welcome additional heat and a touch of elegance to any room.

What you won't be getting is the smoke, potentially deadly CO2 fumes, and the mess associated with a conventional fireplace.

Prices for an electric fireplace start at $299 and can skyrocket to $2,300 for a combination fireplace/home entertainment center. However, there are many well made, attractively designed models in the $450 - $700 range.

The heating unit, or electric insert, includes the blower, log set and controls. Depending on the model, heat output varies from 1,350 to 1,500 watts. This is enough power to comfortably heat 150 square feet.

In general, the electric insert accounts for roughly $200 (retail) of the total price. So whatever you end up spending over $200 will be for decorating and romance, not additional heat.

Electric Fireplace Styles
In addition to the standard fireplace design, corner units are available to make excellent use of wasted space. Other models offer enhancements such as book shelves, curio cabinets or home entertainment centers. The mantel piece itself can be constructed of finished wood, wood with tile inserts, or expensive cast marble.

Electric Fireplace Sizes
Electric fireplace heaters are usually advertised in three sizes: 33", 28" and 23". This measurement represents the width of the fireplace insert at the front; the larger the insert, the larger the log set and flame display.

Usually, a larger insert means a larger mantelpiece. But different combinations of insert and mantel sizes are available to match the size and scale of your room.

The compact design of an electric fireplace makes it well suited for smaller homes, apartments, condos and even RVs.

Quality of Construction
When you shop online for an electric fireplace you're forced to judge the quality of the merchandise by examining a photograph. Most of the time it's easy to spot a piece of junk, but sometimes it isn't.

A sure way to judge the quality of a fireplace is by its shipping weight. All things being equal, you could reasonably assume an electric fireplace weighing 210 pounds is built to a higher standard than one weighing 120 pounds.

Standard Features and Extras
Standard features on most electric fireplace heaters include the mantel, electric insert, 2 speed blower, on/off remote control, and log set. All models plug into a standard 120V receptacle and are completely portable. Also, the flame feature can be enjoyed at any time of the year with or without the heater.

Some of the available extras include hand carved glowing logs, deluxe trim, bi-fold glass doors, dimmer control and thermostat.

No matter which electric fireplace heater you finally decide to buy, it's important to read the complete product description to find out exactly what's included in the price and what's going to cost extra.

Easy Hacks to Organize Your Entire House

Easy Hacks to Organize Your Entire House

We all thrive to live in a neat and organized house but decluttering a whole house seems to terrify all of us. Where do we even start? Some have solved this problem, by simply having fewer possessions less to clean and organize means less stress. If youre not sure how to begin, start sorting through items in a particular area and getting rid of stuff you dont need when you start each room. That way, you will maybe get some new ideas on how to organize each room. The decluttering task doesnt need to be as painful as some make it out to be. Actually, there are a variety of people who have come up with some pretty fun ways to get started.

Keep counters clear

Avoid leaving random items on top of counters and other flat surfaces. Clutter is like a magnet as soon as you put one thing, it will only attract more. Dirty dishes piling up is a big no-no as soon as you finish using them, they go right into the sink/dishwasher. Same goes for anything else. Unless that item is used every day like a coffee maker keep it a no-clutter zone.

Theres a place for everything

Forget about the junk drawer it is a thing of the past. You need to create defined space for all the things. Most of the people who have clutter problems usually have it because theyre not sure how to find a clear place where something belongs. You need to assign specific places for every item, and if theres no place for an item, then its doomed to turn into clutter. Find a specific place for loose change, keys, remote controls, office supplies, or even sunscreen. Do your children struggle with keeping their rooms clean? Help them find the right place for their toys/belongings as well.

Give away one item a day

Another solid advice is to try to find one item every day which you dont need and give it away, throw it or donate it. Youd be surprised after a while how much clutter youve actually cleaned out, and your home organization will drastically improve after that. Strive to keep what you consider to be truly beautiful and/or useful in your home. Otherwise, its just using up space.

One in one out

If you have limited storage it's especially important to not consistently accumulate more than you can put away. Implement the 'One In, One Out Rule'. When you purchase something new or when a family member is given gifts on special occasions; make an effort to remove a similar item you already own. Resolve to declutter the common living areas of your home every evening (perhaps a few times a day if you're living with small children).

If you didnt use it for 6 months

Anything that hasnt been used in over six months in your home needs to be gone. That includes all gadgets, sports gear, or anything you can accumulate in your garage (lets face it, that room is the most likely to become a big clutter mess). Remember those skis and other gear you bought 6 years ago? Out. Self storage professionals point out that by decluttering your garage youll have more space for improvements in your own home because there will be more storage area available. Of course, if you dont feel like giving away some of the seasonal things, you can put them in storage.

Fill one trash bag

Early in our journey towards simplicity, one of the simplest decluttering techniques is to grab a simple large trash bag and see how quickly you can fill it. Although much of what you collect may be trash, you can also use this strategy to fill the bag for charity, and donate some things to the less fortunate.

Final thoughts

No matter what you choose to help you get started whether its the advice from here or something youve heard from a friend the goal is to take your first step and finish the job. You too can have an organized home with a little effort and creativity. There is a beautiful world hiding behind that clutter. How you remove it is up to you. And of course, not only are should you keep your house clean, you should also take care of your environment, as well

Easter Baking and Cooking Tips (Plus a Bonus Easter Recipe)

If youre hosting Easter this year, Id like to share a few tips with you that have helped me keep my sanity when I have hosted this holiday.
1. Cook and bake as many dishes as you can in advance. I have an Easter baking recipe that I share with you below that is easy and can be done up to a week in advance. I highly recommend baking your Easter desserts the day before. It really helps me cut down on the stress on Easter day.

2. Organize your kitchen into baking/cooking stations the night before. I know this might sound crazy but I have found it helps me whenever I am making a holiday meal. I put out all of the ingredients for each Easter recipe that do not need to be refrigerated. I put the recipe out and put all of the ingredients that go into that recipe right next to it, along with any pans or measuring cups or spoons I may need for it. I also try to organize them from longest to shortest cooking time so that I know what to start with first.

3. Select the Easter recipes that you want to use a week in advance. This helps me make a grocery list of all the ingredients that I need. That way I can get to the grocery store and get everything that I need well in advance of the day itself.

4. Use or borrow appliances to help make the job easier. I still remember the first Easter I hosted at my house. I must have spent at least half an hour slicing potatoes. If I had just asked to borrow a food processor with a slicer from a friend, it would have made that day so much easier. If you do not have the right appliance for the job or cannot borrow it, find a different recipe.

5. Enlist helpers! The friends and family who have come to your Easter feast are usually more than happy to help out with any small last minute things. My husband has become the official potato masher for all of the holiday gatherings we hold at our house! Those last 30 minutes before your meal is ready can sometimes get a bit crazy. It is okay to ask for help.

Bonus Easter Recipe: Chocolate Easter Nests

These have been a favorite Easter baking recipe of mine for as long as I can remember. I loved helping mom put jelly beans in these for the "eggs."

1 box shredded wheat cereal (10-12 biscuits) 1 - 12 ounce package chocolate chips 3/4 cup peanut butter

Crush the biscuits so they are fairly fine. Melt the chocolate chips in bowl in the microwave until they are soft. Add the peanut butter to the melted chocolate. Mix together, put into a large bowl, and add the shredded wheat. Put mixture by tablespoon on a piece of waxed paper. Shape each into a nest. Chill until firmly set. Store in the refrigerator. When you are ready to set them out, put a few jelly beans in each nest. It is a cute, tasty Easter treat.

Drought Defense - Modern Hot Water Distribution Systems Save Water

Drought Defense - Modern Hot Water Distribution Systems Save Water

Image source: http://www.slate.com/content/dam/slate/articles/business/moneybox/2015/04/150417_SLATE_Chart_CaliWater02.jpg.CROP.original-original.jpg

Drought Defense - Modern Hot Water Distribution Systems Save Water

Using a new powered hot water distribution system not only saves a typical household thousands of gallons of water per year while providing the convenience of fast hot water, it helps reduce green house gasses as well. Depending on how you use your hot water, you can save energy with these systems as well, further reducing emissions from the power generating stations providing your electricity.

First we shall examine the Laing Autocirc1, a cold-water-return type hot water circulating system.

By connecting a temperature controlled pump between the hot and cold water lines at a sink fixture, the autocirc1 circulates the hot water, similar to a traditional temperature controlled hot water circulating system. It just operates at a lower temperature so the cold water line being used as the return line isn't full of hot water all the time.

How the Autocirc 1 works

The autocirc pump inlet connects to the hot water line feeding your faucet, and the pump outlet connects to the cold water line also feeding the cold water faucet. The pump circulates the hot water from the water heater, through the hot water piping, through the pump, and back to the heater through the cold water line.

When the water temperature at the pump reaches 95 degrees, the pump shuts off. At that point the hot water is very close, probably only a few seconds away when you turn on the hot water tap.

The hot water in the piping immediately begins to cool down, and when it reaches 85 degrees, the pump comes back on and pumps until again the water temperature reaches 95 degrees.

Now the cold water lines have 85 degree water in them, and again the hot water is very close to the fixture. How close depends on how long it has been since the autocirc1 last shut off. The cold water lines will now have luke-warm water in them, the actual temperature depending on how long since the pump last shut off, and how long the pipes are.

Keeping the pipes full of water that is above ambient temperature means your water heater will turn on more often and you will use more energy than without the system. The heat loss from the hot and cold water lines is constantly replenished by the water heater and thus you will spend more money on energy.

Although the pump turns on and off continuously, the motor only consumes 33 watts, and so the extra energy required to run the pump is minimal.

The motor has only 1/150 horsepower, not enough for the autocirc1 to work with tankless water heaters. The unit is 8" tall, 4-1/2" in diameter, and weight 3 pounds.

The manufacture recommends using a water conditioner if you have hard water because it can cause scale build-up and eventually reduce the life of the pump and other system components. The autocirc1 is easy to disassemble and clean if any debris get in the pump. Periodic cleaning is recommended in areas with hard water or if the water heater temperature is set higher than 140 degrees.

Home Depot's price is currently advertised as $239.00 and the unit has a 2 year warranty from date of manufacture or 1 year from the date of purchase (whichever is later).
The Chilipepper CP6000 is a demand hot water system.

With a hot water demand system, the pump is only activated when you want hot water. When you do, you press a button and the pump starts up, shutting off when the hot water arrives.

How the CP6000 works

The CP6000 uses a 1/3 horsepower motor, the most powerful on the market. It produces a maximum pressure of about 60 psi and has a maximum flow of about 4 gallons per minute. Due to the high flow rate, the Chilipepper pump will work with any tankless water heater. Dimensions are 7-1/2" wide, 4-1/8" deep, and 3-1/2" tall. It weighs 4 pounds.

Like the Autocirc1, Chilipepper was designed to be connected to the plumbing with standard hoses used for connecting the faucets to the shut-off valves. All you need to do is turn off the shut-off valves under the sink, and connect up the hoses.

To achieve the small size and big power the CP6000 uses a high-rpm brush type motor. The brushes will wear out after about 500 hours of operation. If you use your pump 5 times a day 365 days per year, and it runs 1 minute each time (typical), then you will accumulate about 30 hours per year. So you can expect your pump to last about 16 years. At that point you could put in new brushes and a new lip seal and continue on.

The CP6000 has an adjustable temperature sensor so you can set the unit to turn off when it senses a temperature increase of 3 to 12 degrees, allowing you to fine tune the arrival of the hot water to your liking.

The CP6000 has a maximum run time of 3 minutes. If it doesn't detect an increase in temperature within 3 minutes it will shut off. The reason for this is that if the water heater breaks down, there would never be an increase in temperature to shut it off and it would run forever.

To determine the maximum distance from the water heater that can be handled by the Chilipepper, we need to see how far the water would be pumped in 3 minutes. This will depend upon your plumbing. The pump produces a typical flow of about 3 gallons per minute no matter what size the piping is. The bigger the pipe the slower the water will flow.

At 3 gpm the water velocity in 3/4" inch diameter type L copper pipe would be about 2 feet per second. In type L 1/2" pipe the velocity would be about 4 feet per second. Therefore, if the house is plumbed with 3/4" pipe, the maximum distance between your water heater and your fixture would be about 360 feet. If plumbed with 1/2" dia. pipe, the distance would be about 720 feet.

Demand type systems to do not experience problems with scale buildup or hard water problems. No periodic maintenance is necessary.

The CP6000 has an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee. It can be returned for a full refund for with no questions asked. It has a 5-year pro-rated warranty.

Do You Need All Those Pots and Pans

Do You Need All Those Pots and Pans

How many pots and pans do you need at any one time? The answer to this question usually is 2-3! So why do most of us have multiple kitchen cabinets, as well as other storage spaces, loaded with pots and pans? Good question!

We have started work organizing the kitchen and can see the progress made so far. Now lets move forward and tackle the cabinets where we keep our pots and pans. If we only use 2 or 3 pots and pans at a time; then we certainly dont need as many as we have, unless you are a professional chef or a gourmet cook with a professional stove and oven in your kitchen.

Looking at my own kitchen cabinet my pots are an eclectic mixture. There are leftovers from my Mothers copper bottom Revere Ware (Which I always hated because as kids washing dishes we had to polish the copper bottom every time she used them!) There are also remnants from my sisters wedding presents, from a time when giving mundane presents like pots and pans was acceptable, along with an assortment of non-stick, easy clean pans in various sizes. Then there are the pans we only use for certain things; like the brownie pan, angel food cake pan, the pan we use only to cook corn, and of course the spaghetti pan. Lets not forget about the saut pan, the omelet pan, and the various size frying pans!

So what is our obsession with pots and pans? Some of us have nothing on Paula Dean or Emeril Lagasse, except they have help to clean, organize, and have plenty of storage room for their pots and pans. How can we downsize and eliminate excess pots and pans and still have sufficient to prepare for your next large family gathering? Just like everything else we have been doing we need to tackle this project head on because you know exactly what you need to have for your family. Whatever the number is that is what you should keep.
Remove all (and I mean all) your pots and pans from every cabinet and storage area (even if it is in the basement or garage).
Put them all on the kitchen counters, stove top, or kitchen table. Even set up a temporary table so you have plenty of room to display items; then set up a carton for donations, and have trash bags available for throwaways.
Group the different pots and pans together. All the sauce pans (by size), frying, baking etc.
Go down the line examine everything and asking the questions;
o When was the last time this pan used was
used and for what? Can you remember?
o Is it still good? How often will you use it?
Should I donate or throw it away?
If you are keeping the pan or pot, put it away in the cabinet.

If you do this for each and every pot and pan you own, it wont take long and you will have downsized a good portion of your stock.

Remember a pot or pan you only use occasionally or only used once is taking up precious space in your kitchen cabinets. It is time to move them out, let someone else enjoy them, or toss them if they have seen better days, and you will have consolidated everything down to one cabinet.

Some people might not want to show off their towel holder. If this is the case why not buy one that you can install in your cupboards or even under the sink? These concealable options will allow you to save all of the counter space that you have and get to your towels whenever you need to. Make sure that you have enough space under your sink before you buy!

Do Not Miss Those 9 Things When Cleaning Your Windows

Do Not Miss Those 9 Things When Cleaning Your Windows

Do Not Miss Those 9 Things When Cleaning Your Windows

Maintaining your domestic windows clean sounds like an easy task, but it definitely isn't. It requires a great amount of effort on your part and much of your free time. It is, usually, a task that is completed during the warmer seasons. It may take a whole day, especially if your property is larger than an average-sized house.

In order to perform window cleaning without the help of a professional contractor, you will need to carefully plan the entire process in advance. Here is a short check-list of some of the main things that you need to take care of before you begin working:

1. All window cleaning companies recommend that you use professional tools in order to achieve the sparkling results that you are going for. Using the right tools as squeegees, window-washing soap, and high-quality applicators will take you one step closer to the desired results, no matter how experienced you are in cleaning.

2. A clean scrubber (preferably a new one). It is a good idea to change it before performing any major annual cleaning. For smaller weekly window cleaning projects you wont need to buy new ones every time. If you dont want to use a scrubber, you can always work with a lamb wool applicator, porcupine cleaner, or a sponge instead. Always keep in mind that a dirty applicator can leave dirt behind.

3. Avoid washing your windows during extremely hot days. Direct sunlight can superheat the glass and cause all sorts of streaking problems. Of course, you should also avoid rainy days. So, keeping the weather forecast in mind when thinking about your spring cleaning plan is definitely a good idea.

4. Read more about some popular techniques for holding the squeegee. Youd better hold it at an angle that wont allow water to run down the glass. It is a good idea to mimic the motion or setting off a snow plough.

5. Make sure that you wipe the rubber blade after each squeegee stroke. For this purpose, specialists recommend that you use a lint-free cloth. If you place a wet squeegee directly on the glass of the window that you are cleaning, it may leave a mark.

6. When you clean your windows, you need to be extra cautious in order to avoid potential damage and streaks. Glass surfaces can be damaged much easier than any wooden or plastic ones. Razors are usually the most dangerous cleaning tools, so youd better not risk with them unless you are absolutely confident in your cleaning skills.

7. For minor cleaning tasks, you can use any type of detergent, but if some heavy-duty window cleaning has to be done, youd better visit a local home improvement store and get some speciality window cleaning solutions for guaranteed results.

8. If the exterior of your windows cannot be easily reached, especially if you are not living on the first floor, youd better turn to a specialist who has extendible squeegees, high ladders, or climbing and protection equipment for that purpose. Youd better not do any climbing on your own if you are inexperienced, as you may easily harm yourself. Your safety should always be a bigger priority than a clean window. Accidents related to home cleaning are quite common, so dont neglect your safety.

9. If you create an annual window cleaning schedule and you wash your windows once every 3 months, it will be much easier for you to achieve good results. Regular cleaning will not require as much time as cleaning once a year when different types of dry dirt and dust is accumulated over them.

Sticking to this list will guarantee you that you wont forget even a single important step related to window cleaning.

Dining Room furniture that Bonds your Family

The dining area of the house is a very important place. It represents an area where so many activities take place. It is not just an area where the family congregates for a meal. It is also a place where very family memories are created. It is also a place where family bonds are strengthened. The sharing of a meal is a very important factor as far as holding a family together is concerned. That short time that the family gets to spend together having that meal can go a very long way to straighten out issues and make the family bond even stronger. There are so many people who ignore the dining area of their house which is a very big mistake.

Taking into account the importance of the dining area in the house, it is important that you take a lot of caution and be very keen when furnishing the dining area in your home. Do not just run to a store and pick what you see and come and throw it in the area. It is important that you take the time to ensure that whatever you are buying is something of good quality and is durable. Something that will work very well to create a good ambience in that area; an ambience that will not only allow you to enjoy the meal that you will be having but one that will also help you to enhance the family bonds.

You might think that modern designer-looking chairs are just what you need, but your small kids might not exactly be jumping up and down because of them. Your tables, along with your chairs, have to match your room. You would not want the table to be too strong, too big, or too small for the room. Maybe you have a specific style of a chair or table that you desire. From the dining room table, to the chairs to the tableware to the utensils and everything else that you will need, it is imperative that dining room furniture be shopped for with utmost specificity. Take what will suit your tastes and preferences as a family. Take what you will be comfortable with and take what will resonate well with each and every member of the family. In this good age of online shopping that we are living in, you can very easily shop for whatever you are looking for online. You can turn this into a family bonding session where you all sit around the computer, log onto the internet and select whatever that you want to buy.

There are so many online stores today that sell very good furniture. These stores go big on variety and they will have everything that you are looking or from tables to seats to utensils and so on and so forth. The goods that they stock are usually of very high quality and you will not really have to worry about their durability. They prices are also amazingly affordable. The goods that you buy will be directly shipped to you thus you will not need to worry about transportation. Most of these stores also have very good returns policies. This means that you can return something that does not meet your expected standards and be able to get a refund or a replacement. They will take care of all your house needs and will go a long way in helping you to turn your dining area into that bonding area that you have always wanted for your family.

Different Types of Magnifiers

You must have heard the word 'magnifier', a glass used to read the small print, but how many types of magnifier are you aware of? If you do not anything about the magnifier and its types then you are at a right place. Below is the list of magnifiers that you can use.

Card Magnifier

The car magnifier lenses are perfectly suitable to read small prints on maps and telephone directories. The size of card magnifier is equivalent to the size of credit card. It perfectly fits in the pocket and can be carried anywhere

Magnifying Sheet

The size of this magnifier is as large as a full sheet of paper; this is the reason for it being known as a magnifying sheet. The magnifying sheet is made of plastic and provides a magnification up to four times the size of original text. It is perfectly suitable to scan small items as directory text.

The bookmarks can have custom logos, self chosen images and designs and also the custom size to fit in a small notepad or a big diary.

This is not it as the list of one of the most suitable object that is 'a magnifier' is large. Designs, shapes, size, material and purpose the list in each category is long.

Designing A Rustic Kitchen

Designing A Rustic Kitchen

Image source: http://www.vissbiz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Rustic-Italian-Kitchen-Designs-for-Warm-and-Soft-Ambiance-with-stone-wall.jpg

Designing A Rustic Kitchen

This is not the kind of kitchen for the busy business woman who comes tired from work, throws a pizza into the microwave oven and spends the rest of the evening in front of the TV or with an easy read in her hands.

The interior design for the rustic kitchen is designated for the modern housewife, to wow her soul and awake her creative cooking skills, to inspire her into preparing exquisite traditional dishes.

The rustic kitchen is not plain, nor does it lack class. Many luxurious mansions have a rustic style. Take a look in your house and garden magazine to see how many Tuscan style decors are used currently in interior design. Or note how many traditional Mexican motifs make the highlights of the modern interiors. And let's not forget the native American Indian style, spread all around the world with its eye-catching details, inspiring colors and symbols that make designing your interiors fun and refreshing: an unique experience.

The interior design for rustic decor is rich in symbols and meanings and decorating your home with such artifacts is a tribute to our ancestors and a pledge for continuity. The easiest to decorate in a rustic style is the kitchen. Luckily rustic pottery and rustic furniture have functionality aside magnificence.

The simplicity of the rustic style does not spoil its beauty. A rustic kitchen is the best place to gather around with your friends and family, to spend a fairy-tale like Christmas, to teach your children how to respect the values of the past.

The rustic feeling in interior decorations is given through design with the materials used, the colors employed and the message you want to convey. In a kitchen you'll need to use natural wood, traditional pottery (preferably terracotta or other earthenware, as porcelain is more recent and too sophisticated), had-knotted carpets and folk art.

While you take care of these accessories, don't forget the functionality. Plan the kitchen to be comfortable to use. Place the sink (the famous Belfast sinks could be a great choice to complete the interior design rustic look you wish for) near the oven, the fridge within a reachable distance, preferably opposite to the worktop.

Don't forget that the most important "ingredient" that makes a rustic kitchen a success is the furniture. This is where the problems come along: wooden furniture is never cheap. You could plan your kitchen from scratch and buy random pieces of furniture from ebay or antiquaries. But it's improbable to find everything you need at a bargain price.

You should also consider carefully the style you choose. To create an interior design for the ideal rustic kitchen, you need to know what kind of pottery matches with your furniture and you should also consider carefully whether that style matches your own lifestyle. Sometimes rustic kitchens tend to be heavy and crowded. The colors are often too dark to create a positive atmosphere. In such situations you can use lighting as a mood enhancer or fresh flowers to bring color and flavor in your home. Apartment plants, with their always fresh green and their natural look are perfect additions to your kitchen design too, no matter if the chosen style is rustic, traditional or ultramodern.

Decorating With Wall Art the Frugal Way

Decorating With Wall Art the Frugal Way

Decorating With Wall Art the Frugal Way

So, you have just finished a room decorating project. The furniture is in place. The window treatments are perfect. Yet, the room is missing one last important piece - Wall Art - to accent those vertical spaces.

Using wall art, is not only a way to fill in those empty spaces but more importantly, it's your signature in the room. Furniture is nice, floors and architectural features might reflect your sense of aesthetics, but when it comes to decorating with wall art - there is just no doubt about the influence you have on your living space.

The most frugal way of finding and then framing your perfect wall art is to shop on line. Shopping on line is the better choice when looking for that perfect accent piece - for 3 simple reasons.

First, no matter what you may be looking for, be it a period piece, a modern abstract, a print or photo you will be able to find them on one site. By shopping on line you get the convenience of shopping any time day or night with direct to your door delivery.

You can custom size your art. If you are having trouble fitting or finding that right sized piece of wall art to fit that unusual space. Many on line art resources can custom size and frame to make it fit those tricky dimensions. They can also accommodate your larger spaces as well.

For example, when decorating with wall art over the sofa, the standard design rule is to find a picture that measures to 2/3rds of the length of the sofa. The most common sofa measurements range from 80" to 90" long. So, a picture needs to be approximately 50" to 60" wide.

Though you could create a grouping using smaller pieces of framed art, rather than a large image, either way this can be quite an expensive addition to your room.

If you have ever attempted to find a picture suitable for your decorating scheme by shopping from store to store...it often ends up being an exercise in futility. Out of frustration many settle for something that's "OK" rather then what it should be...an image they LOVE.

So, that's 2nd Benefit of decorating with wall art the frugal way by buying wall art online. With the massive collections to browse through, you are guaranteed to find the wall art you love in the size that you want.

The final benefit is one I cannot emphasis enough.

I guarantee, you will save substantial amounts of money and time when buying your wall art online.

How?

- You shop from the comfort of your home, when it's convenient, day or night.

- Online framing is much cheaper. Web site art suppliers buy in bulk and complete your order on site. Local framers charge much more to frame your piece because the do the job one at a time and cannot benefit from the massive quantity discounts given to larger framing companies. These discounts are passed on to you.

- If you don't like the completed result...you have a guarantee backing up your online order. Local framers may accommodate your disappointment but it may cost you more for them to fix it.

My final advice, buy your art online. It's easier. More satisfying. And, definitely the #1 way to save money.

To justify this expenditure the finished product has to be precisely what you want and need- otherwise, this projects a waste of time and money, and no one wants that!

Lets circle back to storage for a second. If you need more cabinets, then skimping on storage units isnt the way to go. Check some of these gorgeous designs out from the RTA depot!

Out of everything you fit into your kitchen, youll use your storage space the most. Plus, cabinets are easily damaged so theyre worth spending the extra cash on- economize elsewhere.

Lets Get a Little More In-Depth

When it comes to the size of your kitchen, you have to remember that every inch of space is essential.

You need to fully utilize every crook and cranny thats at your disposal. This is especially true of smaller kitchens and if youre considering a new layout. For example:

Do you want an island?
Do you want a breakfast bar?
Are you considering having a prep sink?

If youre considering the above questions, you need to talk with a kitchen designer or an architect. This is the only way youll get a proper gauge on how realistic your plans are.

Are You Planning on Moving Soon?

Unless youre a homeowner and considering selling your property within the next couple of years, then we recommend prioritizing your lifestyle.

Or, if youre planning on putting your house on the market you should consider whether your kitchen even needs renovating.

By this we mean, you should ask yourself are there any structural features like plumbing, electrics, the roof, etc. that need fixing?

Faults in these departments will be a major turn off for any potential buyers so get up straight where it truly counts before focusing on how aesthetically pleasing your kitchen is.

Lets Talk Appliances

Are you a chef? If the answers no, you probably dont need a million state of the art appliances (as lovely as they might be)!

In our experience, youre probably better off spending your money on other practicalities, when you design your kitchen.

If youre thinking about purchasing an expensive kitchen gadget, ask yourself these questions first:

How often will I use it?
Does this gadget suit your lifestyle?
Does it compliment the style of your new kitchen?

Weve found the above three questions perfect for deducing whether buying the appliance is a sensible decision (even if its not as fun!)

This same idea applies to popular yet impractical design features. For example, open shelving is really in right now, but it isnt always practical- especially if you have a busy lifestyle.

Lets get real for a second- can you commit to keeping your open shelves looking spotlessly tidy (like what you see in glossy homeware magazines)?

I for one couldnt keep up with that kind of maintenance!

If you get sloppy with keeping your shelves tidy, you end up with a dusty and chaotic look, which certainly isnt chic!

Research. Research. Research.

Before hiring anyone to design your kitchen whether it be an architect, a kitchen designer or, laborers, do your research first.

You need to trust the team youve employed to work on your pride and joy!

Check online and see if there are any reviews or, get a referral from a friend (this is the best way to go if youre able to).

Maybe you know someone whos just had some work done? If so, give them a call and see they can recommend anyone.

Or, ask whoever youre thinking about hiring for a reference and before you think isnt that rude? Were here to assure its isnt.

Theres virtually no other industry that would hire a worker without a reference- so why should this be any different?

Lastly, go with your gut. If you get a terrible feeling about them, find someone else.

This might be a long and tedious process, but youll be thankful you put in the time and effort when you have a stunning kitchen!

How Functional Is Your Kitchen?

Everything should have a home when you design your kitchen. By this, we mean that your gear should have a set place. You need to think about where youll store the following kitchenware:

Pots
Pans
Crockery
Herbs and Spices
Chopping boards
Appliances
Serving trays
Baking supplies
Wine bottles
Garbage bin

Make use of dividers and consider whether you need deeper drawers to fit your everyday cooking equipment.

Country Kitchen Design Ideas-What To Know

A country kitchen design should exude nostalgia and warmth so you need to be sure that you use cabinets, flooring, and lighting that give you the feel of a rustic farmhouse.

Colors

The color scheme of the kitchen design is the most important aspect. You should choose colors that are bold, earthy, and bright such as tan, orange, brown, rust, fawn, etc. For the ceilings and walls, you can use vibrant colors like verdant green, purple, tomato red, and cobalt blue. If you do not want such bright vibrant colors, you could go for soft soothing ocean colors like turquoise blue and sea green. Any of the colors can be combined with countertops and cabinets in beige, cream, or ivory. Just make sure that before you start painting that you make sure that the colors you choose go together and do not clash. Two colors that you should strictly avoid in a country kitchen design are black and gray. If you want to take the time and do something different instead of painting the walls, you could wallpaper in a floral motif or bright stripes to give the room the right ambiance and rustic country look.

Flooring

The country kitchen design should have floors that are eco-friendly and natural to help give the room an airy, open feeling. The best flooring is ones that are a soft color. You can also install natural stone tiles that come in a variety of finishes and textures to give a laid-back country feeling to the room. You could also use an area rug on the flooring. It would add a nice touch to the dcor overall.

Window treatments

The right window treatment for your country kitchen design would be charming half curtains in a gingham pattern with an edging of scalloped lace. If gingham is not your style then you can choose a bright floral pattern in blue or yellow. You can decorate the kitchen with a pot of fresh flowers like peonies or daisies. Outside the windowsill, you could have some window boxes with fresh herbs or flowers.

Furniture and storage

Your kitchen cabinets should be in a muted color to coordinate with the bright colors of the walls. If your budget allows it, get good wooden cabinets in a light color like walnut or wood. The tables, shelves, and chairs should match the cabinets. Most of the cabinets in the older farmhouses were done in white because it made the kitchen appear more spacious. If you like, you could purchase unpainted wood cabinets and paint them white and use colorful knobs or even paint a border around the edge in small flowers or the color of your walls of you feel white is too bland.

Country Kitchen Design - Tips for Creating Unique Country Kitchens

Creating a country kitchen design means having a casual, friendly kitchen space with some antiques or reproductions where family and friends can gather to enjoy wonderful dinners and great conversation. No longer just a place to prepare meals, the kitchen may function as the most popular room in your home.

When creating a country kitchen design, you should feature natural materials and colors and have comfortable furnishings that are warm and welcoming. Country kitchen examples are to use open shelves, plate racks and cupboards for storage for items such as stoneware pots, glazed earthenware, baskets and glass jars. Your antique or reproduction plates and dinnerware collections can also be displayed on open shelving. Pots should be made of copper, cast iron or stainless steel without ornamentation.

Cabinets can be made with aged planked surfaces, natural materials with a rough or distressed finish and round or ceramic knobs that will add to the country style. Cabinets or furniture made of a painted, distressed or naturally-finished pine can be a beautiful key element in country kitchen design.

The materials and their colors used for the floor and countertop are important elements to have a country look. For the countertops, use ceramic tiles, hand-painted tiles, slate, stone or marble. If you decide to use laminate countertop materials, select plain colors for coverings. Terracotta tiles, brick, stone and wood are popular flooring materials in country kitchen floors.

Since most home buyers consider kitchen islands an essential part of a desirable kitchen, be sure to include one in your country kitchen design. The island in the kitchen reminds us of the farmhouse kitchen where the work table was used to do most of the food preparation work. If space is very limited, consider choosing a rolling butcher block that can be moved to the most convenient location as needed.

If there is space for kitchen furniture, consider using some antiques or reproductions in your kitchen. And the antiques do not have to be perfect. If chips and scratches exist, all the better since these imperfections only will add to the charm and unrestored look of the furniture. Having some wear and tear to maintain the country kitchen design flavor is fun and it works!

The country look is always rustic, old and warm and colors used in this style of home decor must be selected carefully. Neutral colors such as white or bone can work well as can earth tones, red barn, blues and greens. All are appropriate colors for country-style home decor.

Country home decorating frequently uses stenciling and wallpaper. Stenciling can be used around windows, in the areas where the walls and ceiling meet or even on the floors. Stenciling also can be used effectively on furniture to add charm to a country-style home decor.

To really create a great look, you can even add a fireplace to your kitchen for a charming country-style home decor look. You will find you have many to choose from including free-standing ventless fireplaces that can be simply positioned where you want.

Planning is an important part of country kitchen design before you actually do the work. Organize your ideas in a notebook as you accumulate them. Have fun as you go through books and magazines, visit local showrooms and search online for country kitchen examples and ideas that you like.

Well-designed unique country kitchens add value to homes. Even if you do not intend to sell your home anytime soon, having a country kitchen design that reflects your personal style means you will have a very special place to enjoy for many years to come.

Cooking Chicken Safely

Cooking Chicken Safely

Cooking Chicken Safely

Cooking chicken safely is important but even more so with chicken when compared to red meat, for example. Bacteria can live throughout the chicken meat and it therefore needs to be cooked properly. Chicken is a very popular and inexpensive method of creating meals whether it is for a starter, main meal, lunch or snack. It is very safe to eat it, unless it hasn't been cooked properly and you end up eating the raw, pink meat.

The article below give tips about cooking chicken safely, chicken thawing, and defrosting chicken. Basic food safety tips for working with chicken include:

- Washing your hands thoroughly with warm soapy water before handling poultry, whether it's raw or cooked.
- Washing your hands thoroughly again, after you've handled raw or cooked poultry.
- Using different kitchen equipment for cooked and raw poultry, such as chopping boards, knives, plates and bowls.
- Cleaning all your equipment and work surfaces thoroughly, including knives or and other utensils used, chopping boards and kitchen worktops.

If the poultry you want to cook is frozen, you must defrost it thoroughly before you cook it. If you cook poultry before it's properly thawed, it may not be cooked thoroughly throughout the chicken and bacteria that cause food poisoning could possibly survive the cooking process.

With a whole frozen bird, such as turkey or chicken, allow plenty of time for it to thaw. The larger the bird, the longer it will take to defrost. For a chicken fillet, or breast, for example, it could easily be defrosted in the microwave.

When you thaw frozen poultry, lots of liquid comes out. The liquid spreads bacteria to anything it touches, including other food, plates and work surfaces, as well as your hands. So good hygiene is very important.

Defrosting chicken and cooking times differ with chicken and cooking method or, for example, with oven type. Cooking times should be available on the label. To check if it's cooked, pierce the thickest part of the bird's legs with a clean skewer or knife. The thickest part is usually between the drumstick and the thigh.

Check the colour of the juices that come out. If the bird is cooked, the juices will be clear, not red or pink. If any of the juices are not clear, or any part of the meat is pink then the chicken hasn't been cooked properly and it needs to be done for a bit longer.

Cooking chicken safely isn't hard; you just need to pay attention to the little details such as chicken thawing, the washing of equipment and hands and checking it before eating.
